In this online event First Steps to Setting up an Arts Practice or Working Freelance with Alison Branagan, you will learn more about how to get started in the creative industries.

In this short talk, we will cover how to set up a visual arts practice, as an artist or maker. Equally, you may be a professional creative wishing to work freelance within the arts or creative industries. In seven easy to follow steps we will cover the basics of how to get started, covering research, networking,  finding support, promotion, planning, funding, and registering yourself as a self-employed artist, maker freelancer.

Alison Branagan is an author, visual arts consultant and an associate lecturer at Central Saint Martins. She has written several business start-up and enterprise books her most recent publication is ‘The Essential Guide to Business for Artists & Designers’ (2nd Edition, Bloomsbury 2019). She has also devised and facilitated upon many enterprise projects for universities and business support organisations. She has a Masters degree in Applied Art and Visual Culture, is an Associate of the Institute of Consulting, a Member of the Society of Authors and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. She is also an associate of the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education, a consultant to The Association of Illustrators and a Craft’s Council Talent Development Associate.
