Funding your project and creating the transition into earning money through your practice can be challenging. This workshop will look at the various funding avenues and options available to individual artists including trusts, foundations, individual giving and sponsorship.
The session will also introduce the various Arts Council England funding programmes and their new Let’s Create 10-year strategy. Led by mentor and curator, Mark Devereux, he will share his extensive experience within arts fundraising and initiating projects with emerging artists.
Mark Devereux holds over 15-years experience working within the art sector, specialising in artist professional development, curation, production and project management. After practicing as an artist for a short period following his graduation from BA Photography and MA Fine Art at Staffordshire University, he found his passion and skills to be within facilitation and support for artists.
In 2006, Devereux founded and directed Blank Media Collective and later BLANKSPACE Gallery in Manchester, swiftly establishing a reputation for unearthing exciting emerging talent. Following six successful years, Devereux stepped down to establish Mark Devereux Projects in 2013.
He has since developed his work nurturing early-career talent working with hundreds of artists; curating exhibitions, producing participatory events, facilitating professional development programmes and forging partnerships with organisations across the UK including: Heart of Glass, Manchester Art Gallery, The NewBridge Project, Standpoint Gallery and Vane. Devereux has over 10-years experience within arts fundraising, with a high success rate of receiving grants for individual artists and small-scale organisations / groups.
