NN Contemporary Art is currently closed whilst we undergo capital renovation works at 24 Guildhall Road, with a planned opening to the public in early 2022. Meanwhile, we host our programme of events online.

Open Call: Revolt. Revive. Rekindle.

by 14/06/2021

The Collective Vision, a group of NN Ambassadors, in collaboration with NN Contemporary Art is calling for pre-existing creative works from artists in Northamptonshire.

This open call is in response to the UK Government’s controversial campaign Rethink. Reskill. Reboot. The campaign first advertised in 2019 sought to encourage people to ‘rethink’ their chosen career avenue and pursue one within an alternative industry. It was heavily criticised by the art sector for deeming creative careers as unproductive and something to stray away from. We are motivated to challenge this negative attitude towards creative jobs, as we believe that they are essential for the wellbeing and functioning of a society.

In response to this, The Collective Vision; Tara Florence Smith, Sorina Poclitaru, Georgia Watkins, Hannah Broughton, Rebekah Calderwood, would like to showcase Northampton’s artistic talent, as we believe that the creative industry should be celebrated and not discouraged especially during the pandemic when spirits are low. The selected artworks will be pre-existing and complete; ready to be displayed through an online exhibition held on a dedicated site from the end of June 2021.

For your application, we ask you to consider how your artwork responds to the project title, Revolt, Revive, Rekindle. We are looking for works that revolt against the government’s attitude towards creative careers, revive motivation and inspiration to create work, or even rekindle a past or newfound love for art.

This project aims to give local artists aged 16 and over a chance to showcase their talent in collaboration with an established art institution. The exhibition will be reproduced through a series of postcards available online for a small donation and through local businesses in the town.

We are calling for artists:

– Who are aged 16 and over who are currently living in Northamptonshire.

– Who have existing artworks which can be presented online, e.g. photographed/ scanned in high quality at home or digital art.

Note: This information you submit will only be used if you are selected for the exhibition. It is free to submit/ participate and there is no fee for artists.

The next steps: Applicants will be notified if they have been successful shortly after the open call deadline, on the 18th June. We are expecting to have 15- 20 Artworks within this exhibition. The exhibition will be launched online on the 1st July 2021.
