This special one-off event brought film, music, and words together in partnership with NMPAT (Northampton Music and Performing Arts Trust).
Hip-Hop and Reggae artists Daniel Johnson and DJ Kamar, together with filmmaker and poet Ashley Samuels-McKenzie, came together for a unique participatory event that blended film, music, and words.
The evening commenced with a screening of Daniel’s film, “The Visible Influence of Windrush on Contemporary British Music and Culture”. This was followed by a participatory workshop—an opportunity to create together, where the audience was invited into the creative process: sharing words, sounds, stories, and ideas that were woven into new music, poetry, rap, and spoken word.
Guests sang, rapped, read lyrics and played instruments into the mix, creating an original piece of music which cycled through musical styles connected to the Windrush generation.
This workshop was a powerful opportunity to come together as a community, explore the legacy of Windrush, and create something meaningful in the moment.
