Irka Irka by Flavia Muller Medeiros

During a residency in Lithuania, artist Veronika Lumumba strikes up a friendship with Irka, a young Belarussian art student at the European Humanities University in Vilnius. Irka wishes to visit Veronika in London where the artist usually lives. This proves to be much more difficult than expected. What should be a formality encapsulates a lot of the tensions there are at this edge of Europe with the freedoms afforded to those in the EU, Belarus, an even poorer place and the UK forms the background to this story of mutual curiosity.
